On the side of mundanity

Food is mundane. Everyday, I have a mini episode of "What should I eat for lunch, today?" It's so mundane my thoughts are.

A picture of a food on the other hand is not so mundane. When I look at some food, they look other worldly.

On the other hand, a picture of art is mundane. It is more like a record of sort or a document. On this night, I visited another art opening in Chelsea.

It was an interesting show. I wish I could have stayed longer, but by the time I got there, the booze were all gone. To be honest, I was upset that nobody cared to replenish it even though there was a lot of time left before 9pm, which is what they advertised the open bar would last. Perhaps, one of the attendees was right. The gallery had no more money for more booze.

In my world, booze is mundane and no booze is not so mundane.

Anyhoo, the works consisted of diptychs. A portrait of a person was on one side, which is not a real portrait of a person but a contructed one made up of paper mache or something and there were text on the other side about this person. Above, was taken in the back room of the gallery where people could help write a story for one of these constructed people, whose name was "Maria." I tried to think of something to write about who "Maria" could be but couldn't do so at the moment. Perhaps, if they had some booze, it could have helped the juices flowing. Or, maybe not. But, I will try to write one now:

"Maria... Maria... I probably know 2 or 3 people named Maria. But, one sticks out in my head the most. I started dreaming as early as elementary school because of this Maria."

Another thing mundane is snow. I love snow. It makes me glad to see it. I think I would love Antarctica, too. Although, it would be so not mundane to go there.

"Where you going?" my co-worker asked.

"I'm going on an errand," I answered not so mundanely.

"You're so funny," she replied laughing. "You make it seem like you're doing something so important."

I was. Doing... something important. I took my camera with me on this run to have an opportunity to capture mundanity itself. Nothing is more mundane than to go for a walk in the city in the middle of the afternoon. By taking pictures of mundanity, I am taking a break from it. At least, that's what I say to myself.

The city is different at night. The city at night is not so mundane. My friends joined me on this not so mundane hour to smoke a hookah at a hookah bar downtown.

On the weekend, I baby sat a bunch of kids. Babysitting is mundane. One of my only job beside being there was to get food. They wanted Chinese, so I got some. While waiting for said food, I walked around to take pictures. Pictures of mundanity.
